In Summary

I have enjoyed the "23 Things" course, it has been a great discovery exercise. With that said, for me it has been discovery, I am by no means comfortable navigating within the applications and had difficulty with some of the activities. I found it enjoyable however and it certainly kept my interest. I would like to continue in this area if the opportunity comes along.

Audio Books

I checked out both Overdrive and Project Gutenberg. Overdrive let me search for books without setting up an account. It gave me the libraries where I could find an audio book located. I searched Project Gutenberg and found a history book I may be interested in called "Shiloh" as Seen by a Private Soldier. I don't think I was able to utilize these sources very well, I need a little more help in this area.

Podcasts

I found a Podcast forum on Podcastalley.com about recreational fishing. I am not sure I am bringing the RSS feed for this onto my blog but I copied http://recfishing.com/?feed=rss2. I probably didn't do this correctly.

Thing 20-You Tube

I have used "Did You Know" or "Shift Happens" with some groups during inservice. There is a new version of the video that I used. This speaks of the global change we as Americans should realize.

Week 5

I evidently skipped week 5 in my blog update, however I do remember doing the Library thing. I cannot log back into it, and I know I put 5 books in my list as they were all Stephen Ambrose World War II history books! I revisited the Avatar site, both Zwinky.com and Fix 8.com but was not too successful developing my own avatar. I finished up with no. 12, the Rollo(?) but found when I went into what I thought was World War Craft, it was not pictures of vintage warbirds! Kind of disappointing!

Award Winning Sites

My favorite award winning site without a doubt is Google Maps. I have used this site many times for general directions not knowing I could expand the services available. I used my sign in and password previously generated for one of the other sites. I will expand my usage of this site now after doing this exercise.

Zoho Writer

The ZoHo Writer seemed a good application for collaborative work which we do in our office quite a bit. It is also a great application when one is using more than one computer, as it saves the trouble of using data sticks. As with most of the 2.0 tools, I had a little trouble navigating around, but that should be expected.

16 and 17

I really struggled with the wiki and sandbox. I visited the sites, but did not get a real good understanding of how this could best be utilized. I need help on how to put my blogg on the Favorites. Good thing this is discovery and not mastery!

The Machine is Using Us

I enjoyed this video, it gave me a better understanding of webb based applications as well as the implications for us. Webb 2 may/will require re-thinking on alot of issues concerning copywrite, editing, etc. This may be hard for us connected with 20th century backgrounds.

Technorati

Technorati seems more useable to me than the Delicious. I do wish there was a better explanation as to the overall objective or theme to the different blogs. Boing boing was the most popular but didn't seem to have a central theme or it didn't jump out at me anyway. The next one on how to make money from your bloggs did have a theme.

Del.icio.us

I did the Del.icio.us exercise at home with dial up so I did not get the full impact of the tutorial. I learned much of this topic from one of the blogs listed and then went into the account set up for Carolina library. Using the My Space blogs I see how this tagging system may be of some help. Also the fact that I use several computers makes this technique a desirable one for me.
